To measure‌ your‌ ‌shade‌ ‌sail‌, you’ll need:

  • Your anchors and/or posts installed
  • Our custom made shade sail order form
  • An extra-long tape measure
  • A friend to help

Step 1: Getting Started

Fill in your details. If you’re providing updated measurements for an existing quote remember to include your quote number.

Next, draw a simple and clear diagram in the Sail Design box showing the basic shade and all your fixing points. If you prefer you can do this on a separate piece of paper. Label each connection point, A, B, C… etc. This is just a rough guide to the overall shape. It doesn’t need to be to scale, we’re going to label this drawing with measurements next.

Step 2: Time to get the ladder out

This is why we always recommend you wait until your fixing points are in place before ordering your sail. We custom make your sail to make sure it fits perfectly so we need exact measurements from point to point.

Measure in a straight line between eyelets. Label your drawing with each length as you go.

Repeat the process, go around the edge until you have the total perimeter length.

Step 3: Diagonals

If your sail has 4 or more connection points you’ll need to measure the diagonals as well. Measuring the diagonals means we can cross-check your measurements to ensure your sail will fit. Label your drawing.

If you’re running out of room to write or have a complicated sail with lots of diagonals, list these measurements separately using your the labels from your drawing, for example, A-C and B-D.

This is how you measure your shade sail

Step 4: Point Heights

This doesn’t need to be exact, we just need a rough idea of which points are high and which points are low and the height difference between them. This helps our sailmaker understand the shape and design your final sail should be. Remember to add these heights to your drawing.

That’s It

If you’re ready to order, take a photo of the form and send it through to us along with your online order. Or send it to us for an obligation-free quote and to get expert advice from our team.

We make all the allowances for hardware and the tension of your sail to ensure it fits perfectly.

Need a specific material, a certain gauge of perimeter cable, or other requirements? If you’re a tradie or experienced with shade sails we can help with any special requirements. Because we custom make our sails you can specify everything from the fixing hardware for each corner to the cable exit point.
