This Page is Designed to Help You Measure up for a 5 Sided Shade Sail of Any Shape.
Five sided shade sails are great! Adding a 5th corner to what a lot of folks would do a 4 sided shape is smart. It means less movement on the side that has the 3 connections.
MOVING ONTO MEASURING UP FOR A 5 POINT CUSTOM MADE SHADE SAIL
You can measure up for a 5 sided shade sail in 9 steps
Remember we measure from ANCHOR POINT TO ANCHOR POINT (eye to eye). Measuring from our connection points means you don’t have to guess how big the shade sail should be made. We will calculate the deductions for turnbuckles, shackles, stretch in material, and final tension so you can get it super tight!

5 POINT SHADE SAILS ARE MOST COMMONLY USED FOR:
- Carport style shade sails
- Entertainment/ Deck shade sails
- Shade Sail coming from roof structures (3 points off the house + 2 posts)
JUST FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE STEPS TO MEASURE UP FOR YOUR 5 CONNECTION POINT SHADE SAIL
STEP 1. ON PIECE OF PAPER (OR OUR ORDER FORM) SIMPLY DRAW 5 DOTS REPRESENTING THE ROUGH SHAPE OF YOUR SAIL STRUCTURE
STEP 2. NEXT, LABEL YOUR ANCHOR POINTS A,B,C,D AND E SO WE CAN LABEL THE ACTUAL SHADE SAIL
NOTE: It is important to measure each point in a clock-wise direction.

STEP 3. TAKE MEASUREMENT BETWEEN EACH ANCHOR POINT AND MEASURE THE DIAGONALS

STEP 4. NOW ADD THE POST HEIGHT MEASUREMENTS AT EACH CONNECTION POINT – HEIGHTS NEED TO BE AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE.
